Essay 3. “Pollution”

Every year in the world, factories release several million tons of toxic chemicals into the land, air and water. Every year we lose millions of acres of land. All that leads to respiratory complications and other health problems. Our rivers and lakes become polluted and we cannot swim or drink the water in such ponds.

Factories are not the only cause of pollution. Pollution is caused by everyday human activities and most notably as a result of transportation.

Pollution is created mostly by human actions. It has a detrimental effect on any living organism on our planet.

Land pollution is pollution of the Earth’s natural land surface by industrial, commercial, domestic and agricultural activities. It can be oil refineries, mining, industrial factories and others.

One of ways to prevent land pollution is to recycle: reusing items, using biodegradable products, not using pesticides, not dumping motor oil onto land and into the ocean and so on.

Air pollution is the accumulation of hazardous substances into the atmosphere. It can be very dangerous for humans and living organisms. Main sources of air pollution are automobile emission, tabacco smoke, power plants, and industrial mechanisms (ships i.e.) and others.

If we would like to prevent air pollution, we should walk or bike more and drive less. This will prevent fossil fuels from polluting the air. Fortunately, this is not the only way to live green: don’t smoke, keep car maintenance up-to-date, use push or electric mechanisms rather than a gas-powered, cooperate with coworkers when driving to work etc.

Water pollution is result of chemical, biological and physical matters into large volumes of water that degrades the quality of life.

We have polluted water mainly because of factories, refineries, mining, animal wasting, chemicals, etc.

Preventing water pollution is not as hard as it seems. Just don’t litter and don’t throw any harmful chemicals into our water supplies, avoid using pesticides, not using toxic cleaning materials, and try not to wash paint brushes in a sink.

To save the environment is not so hard to do. Mostly, it is even enough to do simple tasks every day.
