A few days ago, President of Ukraine Victor Yanucovich was given some Basic English conversation training before he visits Washington and meets president Barack Obama…

The instructor told Victor Yanucovich, when you shake hand with President Obama, please say ‘how r u’. Then Mr. Obama would say, ‘I am fine, and you?’ Now, you should say ‘me too’. Afterwards we, translators, will do the work for you.’

It looks quite simple, but the truth is…When Victor met Obama, he mistakenly said ‘who r u?’ (Instead of ‘How r u?’.)

Mr. Obama was a bit shocked but still managed to react with humor: ‘Well, I’m Michelle’s husband, ha-ha…’

Then Victor Yanucovich replied ‘me too, ha-ha….’

We using water for many tasks. Every year the use of water is increasing more and more. For example, let’s look at three main sectors of water using: agriculture, industrial, domestic. The agriculture sector uses the water most and the domestic sector uses it in less amount than others.

In 1990 the use of water in agricultural sector was about 50 km, in domestic – 5 km, in industrial sector used about 10 km. Every year agricultural using of water was increasing more intensively than in others sectors. Domestic and industrial using of water was increasing equal to each other until 1940-1950.

Those years our technology began growth faster and industrial using of water became increasing more intensively than domestic sector.

In the beginning of 2000 agricultural using of water was about 3000 km, industrial 1500 km and domestic – 500 km.

Sure, every country has its own trend of water using and consumption. For example, water consumption per person in Brazil is 359 km and in Congo it is 8 km. Brazil has about 26500 km irrigated land and Congo – just 100 km.

A Russian man survived a frenzied knife attack by summoning help via Skype.

The victim was left slumped in a pool of blood after a robber burst into his home and stabbed him several times before making off with 10,000 rubles ($330) and a cell phone, RIA Novosti reported.

The raider cut the homeowner’s telephone line as he fled, leaving his victim helpless and seemingly unable to raise the alarm.

However the resident was able to reach his computer and videocall his son on Skype, who alerted cops and medics to the stabbing in the northern Novgorod region and managed to save his dad.

The robber was eventually caught and now faces up to 12 years behind bars after admitting his guilt, the state-owned news agency said.

***

Wrecked cars, portions of homes, boats, furniture and more — all swept up by the destructive, magnitude 9.0 earthquake that struck off the coast of Japan 11 months ago — are on a slow-motion collision course with California.

But no one’s tracking the debris, Jim Churnside, a physicist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency’s (NOAA) Marine Debris Program, told FoxNews.com.

"It would be really nice, but it’s really difficult," Churnside expained.

The wreckage from the March 11, 2011, disaster could include virtually anything that floats, according to oceanographer and beachcomber Curtis Ebbesmeyer — and that includes portions of houses, boats, ships, furniture, cars and even human remains.

A promising new system can convert fronds of brown seaweed into biofuel, opening up a new possible source of energy that could help replace fossil fuels, like gasoline, scientists reported Thursday, Jan. 19.

The secret: bacteria genetically engineered to break down a previously inaccessible sugar in seaweed, called alginate.

The researchers who developed this new system used it to generate ethanol, a biofuel that is added to gasoline; however, it has the potential to produce not just ethanol but other biofuels, they and others say.

The new system is like a Lego platform, said Yasuo Yoshikuni, a study researcher and chief science officer and co-founder at Bio Architecture Lab in California. With changes to the components in the process, the same microbe-based system could be used to produce a variety of products, Yoshikuni said.

Atlanta – In an attempt to answer complaints about screaming and unruly children, an Atlanta family restaurant has added a new disclaimer to their menu to control the nose level in the establishment.

If you visit Grant Central Pizza, you’ll notice the menu offers pizza, pasta, and a parental disclaimer that reads as follows:

“Dear all present and future patrons: GCP is proud of its reputation as a family restaurant, a title that we will work to keep. Unfortunately a number of our diners have posted unpleasant experiences because of crying and unsupervised children. To ensure that all diners have an enjoyable lunch or dinner with us we respectfully ask that parents tend to their crying tots outside.”

Donnie Parmer, the restaurant’s co-owner, says he wants to make it clear he likes kids, and he wants them there. He says Grant Central Pizza is a family establishment. But, he says, he doesn’t want one person to ruin the experience for everyone.

Parmer says the restaurant received a number of complaints about children crying on Yelp, and there was also an incident where a child hit another customer in the head with a toy. That’s when Parmer says the written request to parents became necessary.

Why it is important to stay connected?

Everyday something happens around us. Many years before, the world was big and borderless. Nowadays we’re living in a smaller world we can reach our friends online over internet or even just use jets to visit them personally. The first news report about a man who has been rescued with a help of Skype – it was just impossible several years ago.

Just several hours of flying – and you can say ‘hello’ to your friend, wherever he’s living. We’ve become closer to the world and world has became closer to us, and obviously we have become closer to each other. The second news tell us about debris which are swimming to the US’ bands over sea from Japan after an earthquake in past year.

So, it is important to ‘stay tuned’, to keep a hand on a pulse. Often, the world around us is too close to us – and it is just impossible to be alone even if you don’t want to have any relations with the world.

If you were to travel, which countries would you want to travel around and why?

I think I would want to travel around such countries and continents like Africa, Brazil, Argentina, Syria, Lebanon and others. Many countries have wild laws and citizens. Many of them just have different culture and religion which can be uncomfortable (or even hostile) for me. In many countries in the world violence to aliens is normal. So, you can just visit some such country and be robbed or even killed – just because you’re alien, your culture is different and you probably have money.

Anyway, it is a good idea to discover the world. One thing you should keep in mind – you should know what you’re doing.

Another reason to travel around some countries is a political situation. For example, German and Spain can have some political dispute. For many German and Spanish citizens it can be very important – so, to visit Spain can be dangerous for some German citizen and vice versa.

In other words, who cares about disputes between German and Spain? But! Sometimes you should better know about such situations rather than to have unpleasant impressions then.

In 1970/71 there were about 1000 males with part time education and about 100 males with full time education. Also, there were about 800 females with part-time education and about 220 females with full time education.

With every year amount of females with full-time education was increasing and in 1980/81 there were more full-time educated females than full-educated males already. Also, amount of part-educated females were increasing and on 1990 there became more part-time educated females than part-educated males.

In 1990 there were approximately equal amount of full-time educated females and males. Looking at the chart, we can say the amount of educated people is increasing every year, and amount of educated females tends to be approximately equal to educated males nowadays.

We can also assume, in 1980-1990 females and males were in different rights related to education. Approximately in the middle of 1990 females got education rights which males have already and this made males and females equal with educational rights, so females have gotten possibilities to have education rights without borders, thus we can see trend of educated females amount increasing.

I believe, when you learn any foreign language, one of the most important things is to train language templates. I mean it is better to remember on how to use whole phrases and sentences than trying to remember every one word.

When you’re trying to remember unknown words, it is difficult if they’re not linked to context. Again, if you’ve remembered some new word, you might be curious on how to use it right – because you have just remembered it alone and you haven’t a clue how to connect it to all other words and get the right sentence.

This is why I believe, that to train of using whole sentences is a good idea. This way you have completed phrase in your memory. Again, it is easily to remember new words collected in completed language construction.

Look at children. They cannot speak when they’re too young. How they learn to speak? How they know languages they’re learning? The answer is simple: they don’t. All what we do when we’re kids is just repeating.

Every kid just repeats what it hears, even if it doesn’t know what exactly it just said. This way they learn how to speak right. They don’t split phrases to separated words to remember every one. They just repeat and remember the whole phrase they have heard.

Grammar also can be a big stone on the road. Did you know all these grammar rules before you came to a school? I am in doubt about that. I think maybe no one knows grammar rules in a childhood. We meet all these “big stones” when we come to a school – but at this moment we can speak already, and we don’t have any problems with using our native language. Okay, most of us…

So, if you’re learning new foreign language, I think this is a very good idea to not start with grammar. Every language has its own “special cases” and hard to learn parts of it. And grammar is one of such difficult fields. So, just don’t start with hardest part. Train how to use completed language constructions. Use it. Repeat it by the movie starts. It is a good idea to choose some easy to understand and not deep-in-mind ser. and try to watch it with original audio track.

Nowadays we have the internet. So, it is pretty easy to start a weblog. Write. Just write every day and anything.

Also, it is said, it is very important to speak actively if you want to learn a language. If you’re not using language actively and regularly, you can train just passive skill – you might understand what other people say very clean, but at the same time you might be unable to answer because of active skill lack.

If I were an astronaut, the first action I would have done is a trip to the Moon.

People were at the Moon but therefore we don’t know anything about this space object. Despite on this object is nearest one to the Earth, we know about it not more than about any another planet around us. Is it not interesting what is happening on the dark side of the Moon? Maybe some strange creatures live there. Or maybe there are some trails of past civilizations’ technologies. I believe it is very strange that Moon programs were closed.

Next, I would have flied to deep space. I believe there are many interesting things we don’t see from our place. We don’t know what is Venus or Mars, for example. All that we know about around world is just assumption, based on our feelings.

Our technologies help us to see long distance objects over thousands of miles. Nevertheless, we actually don’t know natural colors of these objects, for example. All that we can see with our high-level technological devices is just pictures these devices have made.

Sure, it is all what we have, but we shouldn’t believe the reality is really that how we see it through our devices.

I think one of most interesting things in the world is to learn and explore the world. Last time personal space tourism is growing up. And I think we will be able to make personal space flies in nearest future (maybe 100 years).

So, If I got a choice I would travel through the space. I believe there is intelligent life abroad the Earth. It can be friendly or not, but we cannot be just alone.

Google like a big and powerful corporation, tends to make decisions is a website or a computer software safe or not. But Google’s methods are very strange.

Some time ago I found out I have much less traffic on my weblog than before. I was confused about this. I walked to google.com/webmaster and realized a simple thing: Google decided that I spread malware and blocked my weblog. So, when any surfer comes to my weblog from google search, it sees google’s message “hello. this is malware, virus and trojan. and we recommend you to not visit this website”. Of course, potential visitor just closes window and doesn’t visit the weblog.

Google has common solution for such cases. You should go to google webmaster tools and ask google to review the situation. So, I did it.

I did it, and silly message was removed by google. I was happy, but after some days I has exactly the same situation again. I’ve repeated solution, google removed silly message again. But after few days – exactly the same and this foolish message on malware and viruses again…

I have written to Google and tried to explain I am not spreading malware, viruses, trojans or any other unwanted stuff. And it was just wasting the time. Because of no reactions from Google.

Ok. I just removed from my weblog my software and also removed link on it. Next day Google removed its message.

So, I am very curious – why there are so many unwanted trashy materials in google search TOP but it can block you weblog just for fun?

How do civilizations form and cultures come to life? How were technologies invented and what were our ancestors capable of? How do we know if human development is ever increasing or not?

In ancient times, a lot of sophisticated cultures existed here on earth, each of them was advanced in its own way and distinguishable from the others by their specific customs, art and religion.

The present scientific notion is that ancient cultures have all evolved on their own. And relationships only existed between those, whose homelands were not separated by large waters, because long range sea travel (between continents) was impossible. Knowledge of astronomy, breathtaking construction techniques, religious beliefs, were all developed and invented several times from scratch, again and again. Because they were all isolated on their own continents, this notion is called isolationism.

The opposite view is that civilizations spread out over the oceans and brought their culture along. They were masters of navigation and boatbuilding and shaped new civilizations wherever they set foot ashore.

Science also tells us, the high level of knowledge, we often see (and mostly don’t understand), was restricted to certain persons in selected parts of the culture. Astronomy was known to many civilizations and observatories of varying kinds were build all over the globe, but only to predict the change of the seasons or for use in rituals.

But, what if things are not what we think they are? Could it be that people from different continents had contact and shared knowledge and thoughts? Did they have technology or mental and physical abilities we don’t know of?

Many people argue that the American pyramids are very much unlike the ones in Egypt. Almost every one of the well known pyramids in Mesoamerica has steps leading to the top (where usually a small temple was placed) and has no tunnels and chambers inside. In Egypt it is the other way around. Additionally, the timeframe doesn’t fit. The Egyptian pyramids at Gizeh are thought to be build around 2600 – 2500 BC by pharaohs of the 4th dynasty and the majority in America within the first millenium AD. But some facts must not be forgotten.

When we talk about pyramids, we usually associate this with the stunning marvels of plain beauty of Gizeh in Egypt, and in America we think of the richly decorated step-pyramids of the Aztecs, Maya and Toltecs. But in Egypt, pyramidbuilding included step-pyramids and continued up to the 17th dynasty and stopped around 1550 BC, and pyramidbuilding in Mesoamerica began much earlier, with the Olmecs. Thanks to the oil industry, nothing of that survived. The Olmec civilization started around 1500 BC, as far as we know now! Additionally, even older pyramids were found in Southamerica, build from adobe bricks.

These facts could be a good evidence of that situation, when ancient cultures (ancient people) were able to communicate with each other, to exchange culture and so on.

Yes, I believe we should spent money on space exploration. As it is said, we have been on the Moon. Our space devices have been at nearest distances of the Mars, Venus and other planets and space objects.

Are we alone in the universe? Scientists say that there is no intelligent life in the world except of us. On the other hand, how they can be so assured? As we think, the universe is endless. So it is just impossible if we were alone in the whole universe.

So, maybe there is an intelligent life somewhere in deep space. They might be unlike us. I suppose that is. Many of them might be friendly and others might be enemy.

Anyway, I think this is a good idea to explore the world around us. We can found new life, new objects. We can get new knowledge and discover new laws of the nature.

The one another cause of why we should go beyond the borders is amount of people. We are growing with every year. Many countries have a shortage of free territories fit for life: Japan, China and others. When some countries have lack of territory, they begin to pretend to another’s countries territories. It provokes wars and tense situations.

It is not a secret we have global warming, pollution and other bad demonstrations of ourselves actions. Every year we worsen our world. One day in the future we might get the point where it is just impossible to get back and to correct the situation. It would be apocalypse.

Thus, it may be a common interest of people to explore world around us and find another place fit to life where we would be able to live.

Our knowledge about structure of the world is negligible. We’re living on the Earth but we don’t know what occurs beyond Earth’s atmosphere. Every space objects lives by its own life and we cannot predict what exactly it will do. We even don’t know what occurs on the dark side of the Moon, nearest big space object to the Earth.

In other words, we just don’t know the world where we’re living.

In our usual life we often meet some strange cases which we cannot explain with our knowledge. I believe space exploring might give us new knowledge to explain our daily life and to look at it other eye.

To explore space is very expensive operation. Our spacecrafts fly to the space objects many years, and every fly is very expensive and long travel. Sometimes after several years only it might be clear that it was a mistake on the start and the spacecraft is on a different orbit.

So, we should spend our resources on space exploration. However, this is not a task for just some one country – this is a very big deal for all the people.
